Department of Law
Dawid Bunikowski holds a PhD in legal theory from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland (2009) and the academic title of a Docent/Associate Professor (in the philosophy of law in the Arctic) from the University of Lapland, Finland (2022). He resides in North Karelia, eastern Finland. He has been a (part-time) Lecturer at the University of Guyana (Department of Law) since 2021. He is an Associate Professor at the State University of Applied Sciences in Wloclawek (Poland). Moreover, he is a Visiting Scholar in the University of Eastern Finland School of Theology, where he lectures. Dr. Bunikowski teaches at Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Finland (“Legal Essentials of International Trade”), too. He is an Academic Associate in Cardiff Centre of Law and Religion (Wales, UK). In the past, he was e.g. a Visiting Professor at Carleton University (Department of Law and Legal Studies, Ottawa, Canada) and a Visiting Scholar at Cardiff University (School of Law and Politics, UK). He was a Postdoctoral Researcher (Law) at the University of
Eastern Finland, too. Before he had been a Vice Dean and an Assistant Professor in Torun School of Banking (Poland) as well as granted ministerial awards for an “outstanding young scholar” in his native Poland. He works on legal philosophy, ethics, law and morality, law and religion, law and language, logic, Arctic indigenous rights, Nordic welfare state and migration, and other issues. He has published internationally, and been invited to lecture at European and non European universities. He conducts cross-disciplinary research. He has completed different postgraduate studies (human resources management; economics; MBA in sustainable and inclusive management; Polish-Jewish relations; canon law for lawyers) and holds a diploma in iure matrimoniali et processuali (which allows to represent clients as a canon advocate in marriage tribunals in Catholic dioceses).
